Veggie vs Whole Wheat Noodles

Ever just get that craving for pasta? There are so many options to pasta now a days. The trend of the veggie noodles has been a big craze. The new trend of spiraled carrots, beets or zucchini seems to be the healthier option right? If you choose the veggie route you will save on calories, carbs and increase your daily serving of vegetables which can be great for weight loss.

Now are they necessarily "healthier" than your average wheat based noodle? According to Rachel Paul, PhD, RD, showed on Instagram, there are nutritional differences between whole wheat noodles and carrot "noodles."

One cup of whole wheat noodles has 200 calories, six grams of fiber, and eight grams of protein, while the same serving of carrot "noodles" have 60 calories, four grams of fiber, and one gram of protein. So switching your pasta choice for spiraled carrots will save you nearly 150 calories, BUT you will miss out on fiber and protein.

In her caption, it reads - "Choose whichever best suits your nutrition goals — or better yet, vary your choices throughout the week to get the range of benefits!"

This is the best suggestion, use what fits YOUR plan of a healthy lifestyle and your personal goals. Mixing up veggie and wheat can be used in all types of scenarios. To live a healthy lifestyle doesn't necessarily mean you MUST cut all carbs and sugars. You can still enjoy food, but you must try to learn and understand the foods you are eating.
