Get Your Beauty Sleep

There are so many aspects when it comes to a healthy lifestyle. The exercise, the food, the mind and with that includes sleep time. We often forget in our hectic lives that sleep even exists sometimes. The late nights and early morning no matter what your lifestyle may be.

One thing I do know is that sleep is extremely important. I am guilty of lack of sleep, I'm far from perfect on getting those 8 hours of snooze time nightly. I know we all wish there was more than 24 hours in a day, but unfortunately it is our job to make health a priority in order to live life to the fullest. We all want to grow old with our significant other, children, family and loved ones but we must take care of our bodies to the best of our abilities in order to assist in that process. Nothing in life is guaranteed, of course, but why not increase our odds!

When you practice healthy sleep habits it can make such a difference in your quality of life. Let's get on a good sleep hygiene. Below are some tips to help get you back in the right direction.

  1. Regulate your body's clock and stick to a sleep schedule of the same bedtime and wake up time, even on the weekends.

  2. Start a bedtime ritual. Try a relaxing routine away from bright lights and put your mind at ease away from the everyday activities and stress.

  3. Do you have trouble sleeping? Avoid afternoon napping.

  4. Exercise daily.

  5. Create a happy sleep environment. Consider trying blackout curtains, eye shades, ear plugs, humidifiers, fans and other devices.

  6. Your mattress and pillows should be comfortable.

  7. Remember to avoid bright lights in the night time and start your day with sunlight in the morning.

  8. Try to avoid alcohol, cigarettes, and heavy meals in the evening. Caffeine can disrupt sleep.

  9. Spend the last hour before bed doing some sort of calming and relaxing activity.

  10. Remove work materials, computers and televisions out of the bedroom.

There is always a method to the madness when it comes to your health and well-being. I know sometimes it seems like, gosh how much more do I have to do to be healthy! Some days it can seem overwhelming. When you focus on the important things on a regular basis this creates routine. Once you are in routine it becomes apart of your everyday living. Things won't feel so overwhelming. Lack of sleep can create a hostile environment because we all know attitudes flair when you just need a little more sleep. With those few extra hours it can make everyday stress a little bit easier to deal with when your mind is in a proper rested zone. Sleep plays a vital role throughout your life that will help protect your mental health, physical health, quality of life, and safety.

Make time for beauty sleep and work on getting those 8 hours in tonight!
